Marion Cotillard Covers 'The Hollywood Reporter'

Marion Cotillard graces the cover of The Hollywood Reporter‘s latest issue.

Here’s what the 36-year-old French actress had to share with the mag:

On getting offered a role in The Dark Knight Rises from her Inception director Christopher Nolan: “I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, his next movie is supposed to be Batman!’ And I’ve always been obsessed with Batman.”

On growing up: “I really didn’t know how I would spend my life. I didn’t like anything about myself – my looks, my personality. I was very, very angry … I was living in an HLM [the projects in Paris]. I come from ‘la cite.’ That’s who I am. As they’d say here, ‘I’m still this girl from the Bronx.’”

Public Enemies director Michael Mann on Marion: “I knew she was a great artist. But what I found with her was it’s all about the work, all about the commitment. Her energy evolves from this devotion to acting as an art. You don’t want anything else.”

  • anna

    amazing talent.

  • Ace

@Jake: She’s not 100% white…She has mediterranean ancestry which includes mixed arab/berber/black. So she’s not your typical lily white woman :]

  • Helen

    French are very elegant

  • Jake

@Ace: Yes she is. All European white women are amazing hot, and they’re also skinny and feminine too ;)

  • meh

I saw her in one movie with Leonardo, and mediocre/boring looks with rotten looking teeth. whats the deal?

  • Kiki

She’s adorable and talented. JJ, please more of Marions, and less Brooklyns.

  • Ace

@Jake: Well, thank you :] I’m a 100% white European woman so I should know lol

  • lafamepoma

    Frenchie elegancy ^^

  • Nicole

    @Jake:

    Random.

You love White Women from the ghetto?

  • Jake

@Nicole: Don’t be jealous Nicole. White European women are the most graceful, feminine, and sexy women in the world. I was there over the summer and they all look like supermodels, every single one of them. It’s amazing.

  • fido

I have her math teacher, ^^’

  • Helen

She is a better model than deker and giesel,

  • kathy

@Jake: Been to europe as well (about 2 years ago). Now don’t lie. There was alot of pudgy unattractive chicks there as well as those that were thin and attractive. Sounds like you are on here trying to stir up some sh**.

  • nepenthes

Most OBVIOUSLY not all Europeans are slim etc. blah blah. What is wrong with you?
    Marion is very talented>

  • Bodhi

Slightly off topic but Americans love European women since the US is heading for 70% or whatever obesity levels in about 20 years. I’m Aussie and our pop are fairly overweight too but nothing like the States…but people who visit the States come back and say…gosh, there are heaps of overweight people in the US.
Marion Cotillard really IS OVERRATED in terms of beauty and acting. However, she has a great bod. Something about the French culture makes them have a good realationship with their food – smaller portions, slow sit-down meals, healthy local produce etc.

  • Callie

    @Bodhi:

Yup, her Best Actress Oscar really, really emphasizes how “overrated” she is as an actress… [sarcasm].

If you ever get the chance, look up the movie “Love Me If You Dare.” She and her current husband/partner are in it together and are both fabulous.

  • ex nihilo

European women are bred to understand that a) some mystery, b) a lot of smarts, and c) giving a guy what he wants only 75% of the time makes men absolutely reel.

In US culture, so many women try so hard to bend to the whims of the guy they hope to keep. This only makes the guy want to run for the hills… Guys are hunters. Minute you give him exactly what he asks for 100% of the time is the minute he decides that the chick over there who’s a tad bitchy is where it’s at. It amazes me that girls will say “She’s SUCH a b_tch! What’s he doing w/her?!” He’s hoping she’ll be nice to him like she happened to be the other day for 5 minutes – THAT’s what.

  • ?

What does it matter if shes “white” or not
She is a beautiful, graceful, talented woman

btw beauty comes in all different size, color, etc
if you love women only on a certain color, shape I feel sorry for you

  • Marieme

Great piece at THR. I love that she has a “dark past.” You never would know this just by looking at her. Marion always looks so at peace, is extraordinarily beautiful and graceful! She reminds me of Angelina who also struggled in the past and is today a woman with a real purpose. I love that Marion cares about the environment and animals. She’s my new hero.
