    actually lughing at the “very well received” part. It got an ovation just like any other film at canne, on the road, amour, cosmopolis, aint seen nothing yet, reality, all of them got ovations, and some were longer than the 6 min of paperboy then about very well received, i guess we should go back and read the guardian, variety, thr, that actually gave the movie 1 star out of 5 or 1.5 out of 5 which of course adds to the critics from the times, la nación, canal france, and more. So well received? i wonder if you actually read the whole info about the movie…

    A. OK Says:

    @milli I saw a lot of grat review so you look for just the bad Huffington gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 and one London paper gave it 4 out of 5.
    Who is out on the balcony with him?

    @Milli:

    I do think the blog writer is being lazy and too nice but the festival director Thierry Fremaux did say it had the “longest sustained applause” of this year’s festival at 16 minutes. Also THR’s Todd McCarthy liked The Paperboy and one of the Guardian reviewers loved it too. The other Guardian reviewer did hate it as did the Variety reviewer. So maybe you really should go back and review those reviews.

    @A. OK: either his dad, dylan or maybe the other guy on the movie with zac, and for the record i did made a whole research, the london news paper and 2 or 3 more gave it good reviews, go check specialized magazines that actually gave it 1 or max 2, for one variety @askdebruge @justincchang evejackson Ivan glubokov Stephane R, Abigail N, Phillip Engel, Noemi Luciani from italy, russia, france, and some more places fave it between 1 and 2.5. You should check more info about it

    @Milli:
    Nicole said she’d been to Cannes five times and it was the longest standing ovation she’d ever got. And Guardian, THR and Variety were some of the nicest toward The Paperboy. Guardian and THR raved it, and while Justin Chang from Variety didn’t like it much he still said it was “not unenjoyable”

    Milli Says:

    @Sara: for you there is actually prove that the movie got just 6 minutes applause, here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCnQ9h04Czs . and about two or three liking him when i actually gave you 8 or 9 names that i do know for sure didnt liked the movie, those 2 are nothing, now i wonder if the movie got the “longest” ovation of just 6 minutes why it didnt win? why it didnt get any prize? and over all why it was leah daniels saying it was a 15 minute ovation and we get a video of just 6?

    @Milli thanks for the info. I have read many reviews some bad some good. but most say Zac was good

    Milli Says:

    i@Rachel: not really interested on “words” more interested on how many stars it got, justin said it wasnt unnenjoyable yet he gave the movie 2 stars, debruge gave it 1, ivan gave it 1.5, eve gave it 2.5, stephan, philip and noemi gave it not up of 2.5 speaks louder. enjoyable doesnt mean worth

    Rachel Says:

    The Paperboy got both boos and applauses at the press conference, but it was well received at the premiere.

    Milli Says:

    @A. OK: to be honest i have seen way too many “a half dressed zac” “a zefron in his underpants” “a lovey dovey zac who was good yet not the best” to actually care, i mean one acting cant make a movie.

  13. 13
    Milli Says:

    @Rachel: by the way nicole actually did a good job and so did cusack, critic praise them, not so many on zac or matt, who they catalogue as “two hot stars trying to make it out of rom coms.”

    Rachel Says:

    @Milli:
    I was pointing out that your original comment saying critics from Guardian, THR and Variey gave the movie 1 or 1.5 stars out of 5 was wrong. They were actually the most nicest critics towards the film.

    @Milli:
    lol now it’s obvious you’re only here to bash Zac. Most of reviews liked his performance. He actually got better reviews than John. Some critics said Jack was a miscast, and one critic even said the movie was watchable as long as John Cusack was not on the screen. Zac was never said miscast or bad, and the worst thing they’ve been said about him was that he had HSM hair in the movie and all he could do was display his body. Some critics even said he was the only one who got perfectly cast in the movie and surprisingly gave the best performance from the cast. But I have to say it was Nicole who got the most praises from the critics and Zac was the second.

    I have been saying for awhile now to watch him. He’s Brad Pitt the 2nd in the making. He IS the new Brad Pitt. mark my words.

    @Rachel: and probably you should know that they have more than one journalist over there, so check that up too and you go check their twitters, info is posted there. thank you! and here is just one example. be happy and smile! @askdebruge Paperboy .- *. and just for the sake of examples check @cannescoverage too! smile and bye

    Milli Says:

    @Rachel: not actually to bash, just to prove, and for my own sake thanks. nicole got the most praise followed for “amazing” performance of john cusack, then probs matt and zac fighting for 3rd place. btw i never said he was bad, i just said what i actually read, there were even articles where besides the “half naked zefron and mccounaghey” there was not even an extra word on zac, so about him i dont know, i was not talking about just “quoting articles” and mainly i was focusing on the movie.

    and for the sake of argument, @otroscines (argentinian blog about movies and festivals) posted this on twitter, its a poll on movies that were screened on cannes with names and votes. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmdgVGA_rtJzdHhmRmRtejhteGs1V0NiWVJhTWJOUlE&pli=1#gid=0

    @Milli:
    I’ve read enough reviews. You’re the one who’s dragging some obscure critics into this to claim something that is not true. John Cusak didn’t get much love from critics. They actually liked Macy Gray than him.

    @Rachel: LOL keep contradicting yourself. good night

    mary Says:

    Oh Jared your hollywood a$$kissing moved to another level! FYI, ‘Paperboy’ got the worst reviews of the festival and ‘On the road’ the 2nd worst. I know your beloved boys star in those twi films, pitty they were slautered by critics, but that’s life!

  24. 24
    Sara Says:

    @Milli:

    That video does not show the whole ovation so it does not really prove anything. Neither of us were there either so we cannot say either. But I’m going to trust the festival director who said it too.

    You say you gave me 8 or 9 names that didn’t like it but no hon, you didn’t give me that many that didn’t like it cause I answered your comment that had a list of six sources and made it seem like they all hated it. I was correcting that impression by showing that wasn’t true. Later you added other negative reviewers but how could I have answered to that when it wasn’t in the original comment. Now I will. To your negatives I could add to a list of people with good things to say, like Time, The Atlantic, HitFix and EW.

    I am not wanting to make it seem that it was a huge hit and praised universally. It was not, for sure. I agree with you the blog here is too nice but it wasn’t all bad and I don’t get why you are set on ignoring praise for it or minimizing that for Zac or Matthew, plenty said the cast was good.
