'Madagascar 3' Defeats 'Prometheus' at Weekend Box Office

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted took the top spot at the box office this weekend!

The animated family film filled a void for children’s flicks and took in an estimated $60.4 million, according to THR.

Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron‘s Prometheus took second place, with a strong $50 million, which was higher than the studio expected.

Rounding out the top five were Kristen Stewart‘s Snow White and the Huntsman with $23 million, Will Smith‘s Men in Black III with $13.5 million, and Marvel’s The Avengers with $10.8 million.

WHAT DID YOU SEE at the movies this weekend?

Yep… It’s because Prometheus is rated R. That’s why. Great film though!

The movie seems very funny from that poster and I like their hair

Woh. Madagascar beats Prometheus?!?! How come? Prometheus seems so intriguing!…I guess all the kids went to the theater

I would like to see both Madagascar and Prometheus. I have seen Men in black (entertainer, fun to watch) and Avengers (best blockbuster this year, period. Thor is my God<3). Snow White is coming out in my country this week, I can't wait to see it along with Prometheus!!

Madagascar was funny . I enjoyed it

Well… “Madagascar” actually played in more theaters than Prometheus did. Maybe that’s why it made more money? Either way, $50 million is incredibly impressive!! So glad it did so well!!! Fantastic film!

On opening weekend “Prometheus” did better then “Snow White and the Huntsman” when you add both domestic and foreign numbers up. “Prometheus” 16,917,700 more then “Snow White” and in 381 less theaters.

“Prometheus” made 91,500,000 foreign in 10 countries on opening weekend while “Snow White” made 34,762,863 it’s first weekend in 31 countries.

So glad that Prometheus and SWATH are doing so well. They are both fantastic films.

@POLO: Well I guess your comment shows your maturity, kid.

@One love: If Prometheus was pg-13 imagine how many kids would go to see it… but it is a fact that it is rated R… so clearly less people would go..

Anyway it did way better than SWATH… Prometheus was great.

Oh God, is it silly season already?
