Rashida Jones Apologizes For John Travolta Gay Comment

Rashida Jones has apologized for a comment that she made implying that John Travolta is gay and needs to come out of the closet.

In an interview with Spinning Platters to promote her new movie Celeste and Jesse Forever, the 36-year-old actress discussed Frank Ocean‘s coming out and voiced her hope that a major movie star would come out next.

“A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this,” she said.

Rashida took to her Twitter account to apologize for the comment: “Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta. I sincerely apologize. Nobody’s personal life is my business,” she wrote.

How does she go from promoting her movie to getting into Travolta’s business? If he is gay, that is his business not hers. Her comments were stupid and irrelevant!

  • Anita

Oh but that was the best comment EVER! I get she had to apologize for it though. Damn.

  • Gossipgirl

Rashida Jones is gay, why doesn’t she come out of the closet?

  • somali girl

What pussy he is, take off that filthy rug.

  • Paley

    Forgive her and move on.

  • Buzzy

Nice of Jones to apologize, but her candor in the interview was even more refreshing. So tired of celebs who only say in public what their publicists have pre-approved.

  • http://gabbyrules ….hmmm

Nice of her to apologize, should not have said anything to begin with. The man has a family for goodness sake. These sorts of rumors can hurt a family for life even when they are blatantly untrue.

  • 500

does anyone actually believe that he’s straight?

  • http://gabbyrules none of her business

This is real life, not a play thing. How would she like someone to call her a hermaphrodite for example. Good of her to have the decency to apologize. If someone wants to reveal something about his or herself, the person should do it because it feels right and is prepared to do so…. period. Good luck Travolta! I love you in Greece.

  • lol

She surely wasnt sorry and everything was planned on. A tip: try to wash your vag*na before speaking.

  • jmho

I personally don’t hold it against gay actors who do not want to come out. It’s nobody’s business but their own who they love and want to spend time with. Also, when you know the actor is gay, it does make it harder to believe them in romantic scenes with women, so I think they should keep their sexuality private for professional reasons. We should mind our own business regarding public figures love lives.

  • diebitch

SO she’s sorry for telling the TRUTH, he should be the one apologizing for being FAKE

  • Hmm

Oh come on, everybody in Hollywood knows he is gay. So why is she apologizing for?

  • lil

Seriously? On one point it is HIS business, but don’t act like the evidence PILING up against him over MANY years will convince me he is straight. Worse kept secret in Hollywood. Scientology people might come after her.

  • lil

@….hmmm: Like the SAME rumors that have been going on about him for YEARS? Even BEFORE Rashida said anything? Yeah. She didn’t make them up on her own.

  • spare us

@jmho: makes it harder to believe? what an idiot. most actors are face it and grow up its acting

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

Stupid thing to say (whether it’s true or not!) and no apology will change the fact she said it. She seems like a cool, smart girl. I’m sure she wont do something so thoughtless again.

  • mattchew

Good for her. We all make mistakes.

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

@spare us: “Most actors are”.. what a stupid thing to type. How the fcuk does this person know who’s gay or not. Must be one of those gays who thinks EVERYBODY is gay too. ahahahahahaha Idiot.

  • Good Time Charlie

    Kelly Preston doesn’t mind.

  • hello-world

@jmho: I agree it’s not our business who is gay and who is not but it’s different when you LIE and DECEIVE and take people for idiots. Those who are gay and don’t want to come out, fine, I don’t care, but do not FAKE that you are in love with a woman when you are a homosexual male. That’s just DECEIT and wrong.

  • travoltathegay

I wonder if John Travolta’s funeral will resemble the scene from Death at a Funeral when the dead guy’s lover comes to pay his respects, but no one knew he had a secret gay lover. For Travolta though it will be many many gay lovers lol

  • DB

She apologized in a half-arsed way. I apologize – but your personal business in yours – implying that it still might be true but she should not have said it.

That said – if Travolta IS bisexual and his wife is fine with it, then why is it anybody elses business at all?

Bigotry against gays and bisexuals should simply not be tolerated.

  • Aline

@[~Fug Face Man!ston~]: You’ve made a career of stupid JJ posts LOL

  • TheDudeAbides

Travolta is as gay as Barack Obama’s birth certificate. One of the reasons why you know this is true is because the media is saying that it is not true.

  • Dave Franco

Another reason why TWITTER has become a publicity nightmare. These celebs wont shut up.

  • luca

oh c’mon people sometimes say things and later on wish they didn’t, as long as she apologizes and admits it’s none of her business…. plus I kind of agree with her lol

  • Megan

I don’t get why she felt she had to apologize. Sure it was kinda mean, but whatever. She’s entitled to her own opinion.

  • Danyell

I agree. She made a mistake and should be forgiven…just a case of bad judgment. With that said, I wouldn’t be surprise that she was intentionally set up by interviewer about some question they had ask (entertainers staying in the closet) and she just inadvertently threw out a name without thinking.

  • PuertoRicanGurl

His wife doesn’t mind she knows he likes the corn cob.

  • nicaw

She only said what so many others think and believe. She has a good point, how many masseurs have to wage a comment before something, anything is admitted?

When and if it does happen, you know we will just day DUH.

  • Phewto

Come on folks that’s the worst kept secret in Hollywood.

  • webbie

@PuertoRicanGurl: Don’t you have another toilet to clean?

  • Marianne

I think he DOES need to come out of the closet.

  • LaCroix

Everyone has the right to withhold their personal business/lifestyle. IF Travolta is Gay it’s no ones business but his & his wife. Rashida’s comments are just as ignorant & irrelevant as her career.

  • toni

@500: No I don’t think people actually think that and I don’t think people thought that for years.
I’ve heard from people who have said he is. If Kelly is okay with it then it doesn’t really matters in my opinion. I don’t care if he’s straight or gay just as long as he can entertain me with his movies is all I care about
Rashida shouldn’t have said that because she would hate for someone to ask her father the same thing (and I’ve heard about her father too).

  • helo

    Mind your own business sweetheart

  • bwuahaha

He’s straight just like the hair on his head is real.

  • prettydew

Oh yeah you better apologize, like when is your father going to come out of the closet???

  • TheDudeAbides

    John Travolta is Barack Obama.

  • righteous

    She’s a D-List actress, who cares?

  • KissThis

Didn’t realize she was the type to say something like this. Changes my opinion of her slightly.

  • adee girl

  • just the f*ck up Shida!

People have been saying for years that Quincy Jones is gay…the fact of the matter is she doesnt know nor do we know for a FACT that John Travolta IS gay and its no one’s business. What if someone hearing all those rumors about Quincy Jones asked him to come out of the closet!?!?Some “star” just like her! Put the shoe on the other foot. How would she like that. Shut up Shida!! I thought she was cool too but now I see she has no class. Twitter is exposing celebs for the a**holes they really are.

  • Sheigh

What a crap, but she said loud that everybody thought in their mind !

  • krix

Let’s see… Quincy and MJ, Quincy and Tevin C., Quincy and Tupac……
I mean if you come from a famous Hollywood family who has it’s own skeletons it really is pretentious to poke at other Hollywood skeletons.
Trying to be funny at someone else’s expense isn’t cool or cute.
Graduating from Harvard with a degree in Religion and Philosophy didn’t teach Rashida much about respecting people.

  • The Truth

I wonder if she will come out about being African-American and stop dismissing that part of her heritage.

  • ajfknjanjkn

  • mary

like her mother Peggy Lipton, one of the nicest, kindest and most generous ladies in Hollywood, Rashida is obviously a class act.

  • Pippa

@none of her business: Omg, hilarious – it’s Grease, not Greece. lol
