Tom Cruise: 'Yukikaze' Star!

Tom Cruise is all smiles as he arrives at a private club after attending a screening of his latest film Oblivion on Monday (April 15) in New York City.

The 50-year-old actor has recently signed on to star in Yukikaze, an adaptation from Warner Bros. of a series of Japanese novels by Chohel Kamayashi, according to THR.

The film, being produced by Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally, “sees a planetary defense force beat back an invasion of aliens using a wormhole over Antarctica, setting up bases on the aliens’ planet. Yukikaze is the name of the advanced reconnaissance fighter plane the hero uses on his missions.”

    Big Oblivion Bow Abroad Says:

This gets added to several other projects for Cruise. He’s working with Christopher McQuarrie on another installment of Mission: Impossible, as well as a second installment of the Lee Child novel series based on Jack Reacher that’s also being done with McQuarrie for Paramount and Skydance. In addition, he’s in talks to star for director Guy Ritchie in a Warner Bros film based on the classic TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He’s repped by CAA.

Universal opens Oblivion in the U.S. this Friday.

Also, the film will be produced by 3 Arts’ Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally, who developed and produced the sci-fi film All You Need Is Kill that Cruise starred in for Warner Bros and director Doug Liman. Viz Media’s Jason Hoffs will also be producing.

This would be the 2nd collaboration with Stoff and Lassally after the 2014 release of All You Need is Kill.

    Oblivion - Forbes Review Says:

Oblivion is a solid and engaging science-fiction drama. It is less concerned with over-the-top thrills than in establishing time and place while telling a somewhat simple story of self-discovery. It has just enough ideas to justify its narrative journey, and only enough action beats to construct a solid trailer (the film has one very strong second-act chase scene). As a Tom Cruise vehicle, it again shows off why he has remained one of the biggest stars in Hollywood through thick-and-thin, as it shows his unwillingness to deliver a product anything below rock-solid (I’ll assume Rock of Ages was a statistical anomaly). If Tron: Legacy represented basically everything wrong with the modern blockbuster, Oblivion presents a more optimistic spectacle: Thoughtful, patient, rooted in performance, intended for glorious IMAX 2D, and using its special effects to support the narrative rather than suffocate it. Oblivion is not a great film but it is completely solid big screen entertainment that does its job with visual enchantment to spare.

    Anne Says:

Cruise is a greedy and selfish man. Married career. No woman support a husband these. As an actor, he is lazy (not the amount of films that do), but the construction of the characters. Never going back and always makes the same expression. It is a slot machine for studios. Good luck Katie and Suri, free from this crazy.

A normal person might think, “What the heck, more aliens?” but to Tom aliens are normal like football and pizza is to other people.
