Robert Downey, Jr. is all suited up while walking around on the set of his latest flick The Judge on Monday (June 3) in Shelburne Falls, Mass.

The 48-year-old actor was joined on the set that day by his co-star Dax Shepard, who filmed a running scene.

The Judge is about a successful lawyer who returns to his hometown for his mother’s funeral only to discover that his estranged father, the town’s judge, is suspected of murder.

The film, which is set to be released next year, also stars Vera Farmiga, Leighton Meester, Billy Bob Thornton, and more.

FINALLY RDJ is getting out of his Stark/Sherlock/Stark/Sherlock/Stark comfort zone. Can’t wait to see this fine actor do something, hopefully, challenging.

Well, @Yay, I would argue that both the roles of Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes are multi-layered and challenging — Stark in particular is extremely complex and most definitely NOT just an action role. And Downey has brought many layers of emotion and depth to Sherlock Holmes as well. But it IS good to see him “break out” — although, really, he HAS been doing these smaller roles for about 30 years now! Watch “Home for the Holidays,” “Due Date,” any number of movies — “Tropic Thunder” was probably his biggest “breakout” role (can anything compare to playing a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude? I ask you….). This versatile actor has been around for a while, and if you JUST know him from the action roles that brought him to superstardom, you need to watch more of his work.

@Cliffhanger77: I know him from all the movies listed and more and I have to respectfully disagree about “Tropic Thunder” being his breakout role. “Chaplin” was his true breakout role. But I do understand @Yay comment. Although Stark and Holmes were complex characters and I love both characters, we’ve seen them and that’s all he’s done for the last few years and, dare I say, Stallone-ish: Rocky, Rambo, Rocky, Rambo, Rocky. RDJ is an artist and I feel he might be in a “comfort zone” and that’s disappointing. He can do anything and I’d love to see him do something dark for a change and stop just being adorable all the time. He killed it in “Natural Born Killers” (haha) and although the movie kinda s ucked “, his character in “Fur” was pretty awesome.

I’m just happy to see RDJ in a movie that I actually want to see! I love him, but his choices in movies in recent years have not interested me in the slightest. I did see the first “Sherlock,” with a friend who wanted to see it, and I forgot the entire plot as soon as I left the theatre, it was so boring (just my opinion, I’m aware I’m in the minority on that). And they’re filming in one of my favorite places, too – Shelburne Falls is a beautiful little town. Can’t wait to see this film!
