Amber Carrington: 'The Voice' Top 5 Performances (Video)

Last week, the 19-year-old contestant sat down to chat with JJ at a recording studio about her hometown concert, her coach Adam Levine, and why it’s more stressful to perform in a studio compared to performing live.

JustJared.com: How was it going home recently?

Amber Carrington: I got to do radio interviews for 96.3 KSCS because I listen to them a lot. That was at 6:30 in the morning. Then we went to Rodeo City Music Hall where I first started singing. I got to tour that with my grandparents. We went to the house and got to see my brothers and sisters, all eight of them. I got on a boat with my family and friends and the boat drove me to my concert on the lake in my hometown. We drive by earlier on the highway and we were looking at how many people were there so far and called, “How many do you think?,” and they were like “about twelve thousand right now.” I’m like “Holy crap!” An hour later when we got there, it was a sea of people. People were in their boat on a lake partying and watching the show. I got the key to the city.

JJ: What was the conversation like between your girlfriends, now that you on The Voice?

AC: It was fun. I ran in, my boss is one of my best friends, I quickly ran in and gave her a quick hug and she started crying. It was really fun, they actually put me to work. They made me check someone out, I was like, “I don’t remember how to do this!” They sell my pictures and they designed all my t-shirts. They’ve been really supportive.

JJ: You mentioned that it is more stressful to sing in the recording studio than on stage. Why is that?

AC: I think being on stage, the energy of the audience helps you with adrenaline. You have emotion because you are connecting with them. When you are in a recording studio, I’m always awkward in there, you can’t hear yourself the same and you don’t get emotional about it.

JJ: What was your recording studio experience before being on the show?

AC: Not a lot of experience, just a little bit. I’ve never been a really huge fan of it (laughs). I just like performing more.

JJ: Is there pressure since you are the lone member with Team Adam?

AC: Yea, I want to win so badly with him. It is a lot of pressure because the team has been so fierce from the beginning. Being the last one on the team, I feel like I have to fill all those shoes.

JJ: What do you friends think since you get to spend so much time with Adam?

AC: My best friends are coming out next week, the three of them, and they are like, “Can you let me meet Adam?” and I’m like, “Ummm probably not.” I’m thinking of getting him to wave at them or something when he comes to sit on stage.
