Andy Murray Makes History with Wimbledon Win

Andy Murray made history today when he defeated Novak Djokovic and won the Wimbledon Men’s Finals on Sunday (July 7) in London, England.

The 26-year-old tennis player, who won gold at the 2012 Olympics, took home his second championship with a 6-4 7-5 6-4 score against Novak.

Andy‘s win finally put an end to England’s 77 years without a men’s championship title at Wimbledon.

“Can’t believe what’s just happened!!!!!!!” the athlete later wrote on Twitter.

Following his win, Andy climbed up into the stands to kiss his longtime girlfriend Kim Sears. Kim watched the entire three hour match along with Bradley Cooper, Victoria Beckham, and Gerard Butler!

Last Brit to win was 77 years ago. Today he won on 7/7 (July 7). Always great to see how the Illuminati works!

Think you mean “Britain’s” … typical American making themselves looks stupid.

  • we

Ya, we’re “stupid” – right, we’re not the ones handing over 50% to the ridiculous Windsors.

  • Gucci

So happy for Andy :) And I’m in love with his gf’s dress :)

  • Ellen

    She’s so pretty.

  • ann

@we: Sorry, 50%? Of what? Around 2009, the monarchy was costing each taxpayer 69p a year.

  • ;)

Congratulations Andy, you deserve it more than anyone else, you sexy beast!

    Congratulations Andy !

  • Claudia

Well, not that excited, he wasn’t my choice to win the tournament, BUT i did support him in the final.. i’m surprised he won in 3 sets, although it was more than 3 hours, it just was a bad day for Novak, too many unforced errors, and Andy played unbelievable, everything was on his side…

But hey, he just gave a little kiss to his girlfriend, but hugged his mom, i thought thet was a better picture :D

    Anyway, Congrats Andy..

  • blair

Can’t stand the miserable Scot. At least Djokovic looks happy when he wins and does interview. Murray behaves like an ungrateful git.

  • State side

WTF the camera spent most of the time on his GF?? who was all dolled up i bet she is now counting the ££££££ going into murrays bank account reeping the benefits
media coverage / more richer then ever, 2013 champion still no wedding or engagement ring on the finger ?? All these yrs of being together

    Congratulations Murray

  • Ivana

When Novak is winning no one gives a f**k, exept fans. But when Roger, Rafa and Andy are winning, it’s a world wide news. It’s a curse of beeing a Serb. Fact.

  • LaCroix

Great For Andy & for the UK. Very happy that they finally won it. Djokovic got owned by Murray!

  • Julemry

It was a fantastic match, great skills on both sides, and England is happy!
Congrats to Andy Murray! What a champ!

  • Julemry

Oh, and Lendl smiled! Didn’t know he could.

  • what up

How is this really making history! The tournament has been played for about 136 years. So there have been that many winners. The first 30 years only British players have won it and British players have won it more then guys from any other countries. Are people from Great Britain this insecure.

Melrose at no.1: Don’t forget the 777 jet crash set up in San Francisco. The Illuminati are a pretty sneaky bunch.

Happy for Andy, though I wanted Novak to win… Still, Andy earned it today with how great he was playing; there were too many mistakes from Novak, and he definitely didn’t play his best.

What annoyed me, though, was the British crowd. They were very rude cheering every time Novak got an error (or might have). They even cheered while a game was going on (mostly if Novak had made a mistake)! And that can definitely make a player lose their concentration. Why do you think tennis is such a quiet sport?? It’s not like soccer or basketball where the fans are cheering throughout.
I know they support Andy and show that by cheering him on, but they could at least give respect to his opponents (and I’m not just talking about Novak). Definitely the worst crowd I’ve seen in Wimbledon by far.

  • Soph

As a Brit, it was a British drought not an English one. Also, it’s his 2nd championship win, not his 4th. Get your facts straight!

  • Maria

    What ?????? … 4th. championship. Awful reporting.

  • 55vineyard

Congrats to all my British friends, great match.

  • florence2

Maybe there’s no engagement ring or pending wedding becuase they don’t need or want a piece of gold and a piece of paper to show their commitment to one another and are more than happy with the set up they have. Novak isn’t married or engaged to his gf and they have been together for a long time and they showed his gf just as much as they showed Andy’s gf.

When play was going on the cameras focused on that so what difference does it matter if they show either gf at times they showed Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler quite a few times to and they wasn’t even playing the game just watching like Kim so who are some people to say who get’s shown more.

I love watching Novak to but he did’nt play his best and I don’t think the crowd had a lot to do with it he had not long before played a long match and that to could have been the reason, doesn’t rally matter Andy won fair and square and had his dream come true he has put the work and commitment in and this day he got his reward for all that so well done Andy.

  • Jim

The crowd was incredibly rude. It was worse than the US Open! Shouting out in the middle of points. Whatever happened to British decorum and proper behavior? Congratulations, Brits, you’ve become more boorish than Americans or Germans!

  • Rachel

Jared, maybe you should stick to reporting Hollywood news since you said it was his 4th GS win! But seems like that has been corrected now. All the pictures are of Kim Sears! Jeez.
And yes, the crowd was very rude.

  • John

British or Scottish – not English

John at 4:44; Don’t forget too, Andy Murrary is Jewish by his genealogy line. See the big Holy Grail cup he is holding at:

  • Laurence

A friendly reminder: England does NOT equal Britain. Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. Everyone is British, but not all are English. Murray is Scottish AND British, while Tim Henman is English and British and Tom Jones is Welsh and British. Cheers.

  • Geography?

British Isles – Great Britain, Ireland, Isle of Mann, Channel islands, Scottish islands etc
Great Britain – Island consisting of the countries of England, Scotland & Wales
United Kingdom – Sovereign state consisting of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland
Scotland – The country Andy Murray comes from
Scotland, the UK, Great Britain & the British Isles got a men’s champion at Wimbledon yesterday, you could have said any of them, why say England?
