NBC Rebooting 'Murder, She Wrote' with Octavia Spencer!

NBC is redeveloping the beloved Universal TV series Murder, She Wrote with Octavia Spencer in the leading role, according to Deadline!

The 43-year-old actress will play the role of Jessica Fletcher, made famous by Angela Lansbury from 1984-1996!

David Janollari and Alexandra Cunningham are set to executive produce the drama, which will have “a light, contemporary feel,” according to the network.

Angela‘s character was an “astute amateur detective,” and the hour long series has received a pilot commitment from NBC.

The series “follows a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth (Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel. Set in a day where sensational headlines inundate the news, this woman’s avid fascination with true crime leads her to become an active participant in the investigations.”

    JJ THE EXPAT Says:

Nope. Sorry. This is the worst idea for a reboot ever. Murder She Wrote was a classic and no one could ever replace Angela Lansbury. This reboot concept is as bad as JJ Abrahms reboot of Star Trek … blah yet another failure.

So I guess whoever is in charge didn’t learn from the “remake” of Ironside. It got cancelled. Bad idea. I’ll still watch the reruns.

Yeah and let’s have a Chinese guy play Nelson Mendela in a movie?

Two shows ruined by black power right? LEAVE Old tv series alone..
And yeah go after any black tv series that we can have Chinese people
Play them! Did not know that Octivia was in her 70′s .. In a old town..
Where they’re aren’t any black people. What have all black cast 2..?

    Stupid idea Says:

I guess NBC did not learn anything from the flop it was Ironside. What are in the minds of NBC executives lately? Poop, drugs? or what or better yet who run this network?

Leave old series the way they are period and do not mess up with them in any way possible. I mean there are jsut a handful of TV shows that had been re made and rebooted that had turn out to be OK, but it is just a very minority but that does nto mean all old series will be a hit. It was a risk anyway for the rebooted ones who had been sucessful so far there are some series that do not need to be made again and some old ones they are fit to be rebooted, others do not.

I mean a series that can be rebooted and I think it may succeed is Mcgiver with all the current tech gadgets it can be done again with up to date gadgets to just a say an example.

It sounds so different from the original that they might as well as have given it a different name. Why call it a reboot?
