Peter O'Toole Dead - 'Lawrence of Arabia' Star Dies at 81

Peter O’Toole has died at the age of 81, his agent tells the BBC.

The actor is most known for his starring role in the film Lawrence of Arabia, which earned him his first Oscar nomination of a career total of eight! He never won an Academy Award for an acting performance, but he received an honorary Oscar in 2003.

Peter recently finished work on the historical film Katherine of Alexandria, which is set to be released in 2014 and he was announced to star alongside Ben Kingsley in the biopic Mary.

“His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time,” his daughter Kate said in a statement. “Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished.”

We send out our condolences to Peter‘s friends and family during this difficult time.

They really should recognize him with an honorable Oscar since he was robbed so many times. Even JLaw got an Oscar??? Ridicicules that she did.

The Irish actor was very underrated in King Ralph. Since the silly comedy was so far fetched. But quite well made actually…

Peter O’ Toole added a bit of class to everything he did . Lawrence of Arabia may be the standout but he gave strong performances in films like Troy, the T.V mini series Masada and one of my guilty pleasures Creator RIP Mr. O’Toole

just shows how bogus the Oscars are. this great actor never won 1 time for the 8 outstanding roles he was nominated for.

    Cate Says:

@Sara: No. Sadly, O’Toole never won an Oscar despite being nominated EIGHT times! It’s one of the reasons I can’t take the Oscars too seriously.

    Lou Says:

That’s so sad! He was a real legend! And no Oscar… What a shame!

Peter O’Toole was one of the greatest, and best-looking, actors ever. His starring role in “The Lion in Winter” was, is and always will be, sheer perfection.

RIP Peter O’Toole, one of the great’s who deserved to win more than just an honorary Oscar.

On a side note, as much as I love Robert Pattinson, he better not screw up role of T.E. Lawrence in Queen of the Desert if he doesn’t want to face the wrath of everybody who loved O’Toole as Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia

    Sorry for the double post.

    mara Says:

I should add that his role in “The Lion in Winter” also starred Katherine Hepburn, who won an Academy Award for her role in that movie; he should have also won for his role in that movie.

    mara Says:

Sorry, I should have said Katharine Hepburn.

  22. 22
    mara Says:

I meant to say that his role in “The Lion in Winter” and Katharine Hepburn’s role in that movie were equally fantastic, and he should also have won an Academy Award for his performance.

    Alaia Says:

@Emma: They already did give him the Honorary Oscar about a decade ago!

    .@talia:

    Such a lose.
Sadly, no one can really equal his incredibly layered performance. What he captured on screen is just unattainable for today’s current crop.

Daniel Day Lewis comes close, but is too old now.
