Angelina Jolie on 'Unbroken' Story: The Strength of the Human Spirit is Extraordinary

Angelina Jolie gives a sweet hug to her Unbroken inspiration Louis Zamperini as they sit down for a pre-taped interview on the Today show, which aired today (February 25).

“I imagine that for the last 10-something years, he has been sitting there having a coffee in the morning and wondering who’s going to make this movie,” the 38-year-old actress and director said about World War II hero Louis. “And I’ve been sitting in my room laying there thinking, ‘What am I supposed to be doing with my life? I wanna do something important. I need some help. I need some guidance. Where is it?’ And it was right outside my window.”

“(The world) can seem hopeless and it can seem very overwhelming,” Angelina added. “But the resilience and the strength of the human spirit is an extraordinary thing.”

Oh Santa Angelina, she’s such an angel with everyone who are far from her and when she’s in front of a camera. But she can’t forgive her father who had to deliver his Valentine’s pressents for his grand children and her in a parking lot to her body guards…
Such a golden heart should be able to forgive those who are closer to her.

Awwww…you can see the love and admiration between Louie and Angie…
The kiss she planted on his head was so cute…This movie will be amazing…and I’m sure it will bring lots of accolades for our Angie…She’s a force to be reckoned with…her determination and vision to get his story right especially with Louie still alive has made it a huge responsibility on her shoulder…so freaking proud of Angie…December 25 can’t come soon enough….

Angelina Jolie talks to Tom Brokaw
    ===============================
    .
Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY 8:27 a.m. EST February 25, 2014
And how is Brokaw doing these days?
Angelina Jolie has a new man in her life.
    .
He calls her “honey” and she tells him, “I love you.”
    .
He’s Louis Zamperini, 97, the focus of her new film and the subject of the best selling book, Unbroken.
Jolie is directing the film adaption of the story of the World War II hero and Olympic distance runner, slated for theaters later this year.
    .
“Such a huge responsibility to get it right,” she told Tom Brokaw, who presented a story on her and Zamperini on Todayon Tuesday.
    .
“I wanted to direct something again,” said Jolie. “I wasn’t sure what. It had to be something I would love and care about because it takes much more time away from your family and much more effort than acting.”
    .
She added, “This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” She went on to explain that she it wasn’t easy to land the job. “I pitched my butt off.”
    .
And she hopes that the story will send a message. “I think Louis has been very clear about what his message is and certainly the book. I think, for my children, and for everybody, I want to be able to say it can seem dark and it can seem hopeless and it can seem very overwhelming but the resilience and the strength of the human spirit is an extraordinary thing.”
    .
The movie seems meant to be as the two turned out to be neighbors in the Los Angeles area. Zamperini can see her house from his. “I’ve been sitting in my room, laying there thinking what am I supposed to be doing with my life,” said Jolie. “I want to do something important. I want to connect, but I need some help. I need some guidance. Where is it? And it was right outside my window.”
Brokaw promised to follow up with her in coming months as the movie production continues at Universal Studios, oday’s parent company.
    ,
As for Brokaw’s health? When Savannah Guthrie asked how he’s doing in the wake of his cancer news, all he would say is, “I’m OK.”

    Good Morning Rose
    .
How are you my dear apologies for yesterday I kept on getting in to moderation hence my no reply back to you, maybe JJ is trying to tell me something, l I know I’m still shameless when I see a window open I get in lol. In regards to the refugee children not knowing who Angie is, yet they could differentiate between genuine love & humbleness from Angie and that’s what exudes from Angie, you see what you get, a decent selfless women whose trying her upmost to help those who are in need, regardless of what race, colour, creed they are from, for her they are ONE.
    .
IN regards to you disagreeing with me on Ticky & Squiggy gate-crashing one of the after Oscar parties, my innocent sister that is SO happening, look his a$$ has already been pulled back from NYC just in time for ‘Show Time’ you know how media hungry Ticky is to stay relevant she aren’t letting this opportunity get away after all she fights dirty her words.
I ‘m laughing at Robin Thick & Pula Patten splitting as if that’s wasn’t foreseen by everyone, its only the amount of time a wife can pretend to turn a blind eye to her husbands philandering with young girls. I guess with all the new fame Robin forgot his family values, by the end of this year believe me people will go Robin who? Yes the fickle world of music industry if he’s got good music that will carry the bandwagon if not he will be along with the one hit wonder people.

They are such a cute couple! I do think Brad will have to fight Louis for her after all.

The love and admiration they have for each other is beautiful. I’m glad Angie has him in her life for her and her family – a true gentleman.

I hope that he will be able to make the premiere and enjoy all of it. He really is a treasure.

Phool you described our lover boy to a tee….I was laughing so hard that I almost choked on the banana…Phool can I hang out with you…you must be a load of fun to be with…

You’re right…Brad should be worry about Louie…Look at the loving, the kiss and the affection between these two…but seriously joking aside I think it’s such a joy to watch…I think Angie will do Louie proud…

    Rose Says:

@Phool.: Remember Louie told Brad he’s going to fight him for Angie, I guess Brad laughed. I forget his reply to the challenge. Phool, I have to run now.@ndn: It’s her engagement ring turned around.

@#6, I remember seeing Angie’s father sitting at her table when she was honored with her humanitarian Oscar Award in December. … at her table was Brad, MADD, Jon V, her Brother, LZ, one of her security
guard, and a few others. However, some people is always willing to believe what they read in the weekly rags than what they see with both eyes. If it makes you feel superior, then go for it, knock yourself out.

  21. 21
    meg Says:

Louie seems like a very sweet man. Ange maybe would rather have Louie as her dad to love (more) than Jon.

  22. 22
    meg Says:

I don’t think 91-year old Louie needs all the money he gets that this film will generate but it’s about history that should just not die with him. Can’t wait for the movie.

    @just_me:

    LOL Such silliness you sprout!!!

What if most of the kids were not even in town but with their other Grands since their Dad and Mom and older brother were in transit to London?

    tsk tsk tsk

But then you can’t help yourself as obviously you are a member of the FF brain damaged cabel.

    Ⱦamsin Says:

Oh the nerve of this shameless vain, arrogant Ho. So Zamperini has done nothing but wait for ten years for someone to tell his story!? Btch please, the book was a hit and has been read by millions of people at this point. The movie, on the other hand, has been in development hell for nearly 50 years. She had to beg for this job and and give up her directorial fee to get it made, and now she’s trying to pass for the mastermind who put it all together? Pffff..

Yes Ho, you are in need of guidance for sure. It’s called rehab. Drug abuse, anorexia, mental breakdowns, and neglecting your children, what are you waiting for?
