Denzel Washington‘s new film The Equalizer topped this weekend’s box office with a whopping $35 million debut!
According to THR, the action thriller also starring Chloe Moretz, marks the third-best opening of Denzel‘s career behind 2007′s American Gangster and the 2012 hit Safe House.
Holding steady at No. 2 was The Maze Runner, starring Dylan O’Brien and Will Poulter, which brought in an additional $17.5 million in its second weekend for a domestic total of $58 million so far.
The 3D family flick, The Boxtrolls, starring the voices of Isaac Hempstead Wright and Elle Fanning, debuted in the third spot, earning a decent $17.3 million.
Rounding out the top five were the star-studded dramedy This Is Where I Leave You and Dolphin Tale 2, which brought in $7 million and $4.8 million, respectively.
