Emma Watson Named Feminist Celebrity of the Year

Big news for Emma Watson — she was just named Feminist Celebrity of 2014 by the voters at ForWomen.org in a poll conducted in partnership with Cosmopolitan.com.

In September, the 24-year-old actress gave an inspiring speech about gender roles in society at the launch of the #HeForShe campaign.

“We celebrate all feminists every day, but today we’re giving a hat tip to celebrities who are helping to promote women’s equality,” President and CEO Teresa Younger said in a statement. “Every celebrity on the list has either embraced the term ‘feminist,’ spoken out for women’s equal rights or battled against sexist oppression.”

Well deserved. Emma is an intelligent and lovely woman.

Why in the world couldn’t she write her own speech? What exactly is it you think it requires to write a speech that she couldn’t do this? I would think that she may have consulted with others on it but most speechwriters do that.

Nice to see Watson acknowledged for her work. Cher? She may be one of the last people I’d put on that list.

Great! Now we are giving special recognition to people just for believing in BASIC RIGHTS? Oh, the humanity…

She made one speech and now she’s titled to be the Feminist Celebrity of the Year. We all know the only reason as to why she got the job as global abassador. Its because she’s Emma Watson. Its just because of her name. Meanwhile, there are regular women out there that consider fighting for women rights an actual job and a necessity for humanity. To Emma Watson, this is a one time thing.
