Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks to Make Broadway Debut in 'Color Purple'!

Danielle Brooks, best known for playing Taystee in Orange is the New Black, is headed to Broadway with The Color Purple!

The 25-year-old actress will play Sofia in the Broadway revival. Sofia is the role made famous by Oprah Winfrey in the film version of the show.

“My body is having an out-of-body experience,” Danielle said about the casting news (via ABC). “I’m so shocked and honored and grateful.”

The cast also includes Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avery and Cynthia Erivo as Celie, who will both also be making their Broadway debuts.

“It’s opened so many doors in so many ways. I’m grateful that they’ve been so supportive of me and the new journey that I’m about to take,” Danielle added about OITNB. “Taystee is very much still alive. So far. Knock on wood, please.”
