Meghan McCain Urges Republicans to Support Same-Sex Marriage

Meghan McCain is urging Republicans to support marriage equality after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional.

“Republicans have to move on from this, or become relics,” the daughter of 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain said (via Variety).

“The GOP’s nominee in 2016 has to support this ruling,” Meghan continued. “I think any anti-equality rhetoric will be lethal. We live in a world now where the reaction to Caitlyn Jenner is overwhelmingly positive and loving and accepting. I’ve said this before, but [Mike] Huckabee is one of the great imbeciles of American politics.”

“I never wanted to live in an America where there are different rights for different citizens depending on who you love,” Meghan added. “Even at a young age, I could never get the logic of that. When I tell my grandkids this story and tell them that in the past it wasn’t legal for gay people to get married, I think it’ll sound insane and unbelievable.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Meghan McCain’s comments on marriage equality?

This is the most articulate, true thing I’ve read in a LONG TIME. If all republican candidates continue to spout hate, they will lose and lose hard in 2016. The world wants people who care about progress, not people who want to live in the past forever.

I like this woman. I wonder what she thinks of Sarah Palin.

  • NAVORD

Just because the Courts forced gay marriage on the State Governments doesn’t mean individuals have support gay marriage. Like saying because the Courts OK’d Abortions everyone has to support Abortions.

For all the people cheering the decision, remember
    A) it was only a 5-4 decision it could have EASILY gone the other way.
    B) Read the dissents and understand this decision goes beyond gay marriage and how it erodes the Republic.
    C) Probably should have been the first item, but remember that gay marriage has NEVER won by a referdumum/proposititon. Time and Time again Gay marriage failed in even Liberal States like California. You needed 9 unelected people to get what you want..so no Meghan..people who don’t believe in or support gay marriage will magically agree with it because 5 Judges…5..OPINIONS did side with it.

A liberal whacko thinks Republicans should do what?

    Woe unto them that call
evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for
darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)

I have to agree with her. While I am yet to find a Republican candidate I take seriously, let alone would vote for, your population base of racist, sexist, homophobic Bible humping white people is not a majority. Even your own Republican base (the younger) that will be your future, overwhelmingly support same sex–equal marriage rights. You can believe whatever religion (Christian) you want but American is secular. You don’t have the right to carry that hate into laws that effect tens of millions of people

  • Samm Lacroix

so is that for or against equal rights?

  • 55vineyard

Please republicans, give me someone I can vote for next year, stop it with the wacko candidates and put up a nice moderate candidate.

  • Tony Mac

She should start with her outdated out of touch father

  • Mike1288

I agree. The GOP needs to move past this and abortions. You aren’t changing it. However, every time I think about 2016 I think of how screwed we are. We either have hateful trolls like Trump or Huckabee or we have Hilary who takes money from countries that oppress women and put them on trial when they are raped.

  • Mike1288

Well compared to Huckabee Romney was very moderate so…there isn’t a single candidate so far I would vote for. I may skip an election.

  • Tony Mac

Meghan start with your outdated and out of touch father. Even Keli Ward and Jeff Flake accepted today’s ruling. Proves that we need someone other than John McCain who has war on the brain representing AZ

What the Supreme Court did this week was kind of brilliant. They effectively demobilized a large part of the Democrats base. Liberals don’t care about national security or world affairs, there is no African American running for president on the dem side, so SCOTUS has just decreased turnout on the dem side for the next presidential election.

    Probably a good idea.
