Mel Gibson Is Working on a 'Passion of the Christ' Sequel

Mel Gibson is reportedly working on a sequel to his smash hit film The Passion of the Christ.

The 60-year-old filmmaker directed the 2004 movie and it went on to become the highest grossing independent film of all time with over $612 million earned worldwide. The movie cost just $30 million to produce.

Randall Wallace, who Mel worked with on Braveheart and the upcoming film Hacksaw Ridge, confirmed to THR that they are currently planning the sequel.

“I always wanted to tell this story,” Randall, who studied religion at Duke University, said. “The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”

“The evangelical community considers The Passion the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger,” he added.
