John Boyega Reveals Which Celeb Made Him Want to Join 'Pacific Rim Uprising'
John Boyega is hot on the Pacific Rim Uprising promo trail!
The 26-year-old Star Wars actor stepped out for a special screening and Q+A, moderated by Jamie Broadnax and in partnership With Black Girl Nerds, on Monday (March 19) in New York City.
He recently opened up about his relationship with 2013′s Pacific Rim and what got him excited about the sequel.
“Oh, Idris Elba was, so easily, the number one thing that attracted me to the first one,” he told GQ. “That picture of him in the all-black drive suit that announced that he had been cast. Wow. Obviously, his career from The Wire onwards, I just felt like it was so cool he was jumping into sci-fi in such a prominent role.”
“I loved the experience of the first movie,” John continued. “It was so different. It was specific. I felt like the director had a vision. I was just a fan and I was waiting for the sequel. I had no idea if it would happen, or, whether Guillermo [del Toro] would be attached. It would go quiet for a long time. I had my ear to the ground for all of that. But little did I know that, eventually, I’d be a part of this.”
“What I was pissed about was the fact that I didn’t get to be in a scene with [Idris], which I would have loved,” John added.
Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on March 23.
