Emily Blunt Explains Why Julie Andrews Is Not in 'Mary Poppins Returns'
Emily Blunt poses for a photo with Lin-Manuel Miranda at a SiriusXM Town Hall event on Monday afternoon (December 3) in New York City.
The actors were joined by their Mary Poppins Returns co-stars Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw for the conversation.
In a recent interview, Emily opened up about why original Mary Poppins star Julie Andrews does not appear in the new film.
“She was very hands-off with the whole thing,” Emily told Variety.
“There was discussion about, you know, that maybe she would come and do a bit in the movie and she was so generous actually,” she added. “She said to Rob [Marshall], ‘Do you know what this is? This is Emily’s version of her and I don’t want it to be that she’s playing Mary Poppins the whole way through but then I come in and there’s like oh, but there’s the real Mary Poppins, you know?’”
FYI: Emily is wearing a Carolina Herrera dress and a Josie Natori tank.
