Peter Tork Dead - The Monkees Bassist Dies at 77

Peter Tork has sadly died at the age of 77.

Known best as the bassist for The Monkees, the talented musician died on Thursday (February 21), his sister Anne confirmed to Deadline. She did not provide details. Peter was diagnosed with throat cancer a decade ago.

The Monkees topped the charts with hits like “I’m A Believer,” “Daydream Believer” and “Last Train to Clarksville.” The group also featured Davy Jones, Michael Neismith and Micky Dolenz.

The group was formed as part of the TV show The Monkees that aired from 1966 to 1968, and then went on to become a successful recording act through 1971, followed by multiple reunion tours and new records. They have sold more than 75 million records worldwide.
