Mariah Carey Felt Like a 'Prisoner' in Tommy Mottola Marriage

Mariah Carey is opening up about her first marriage, which was to Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola.

The former couple got married in 1993 and their relationship raised eyebrows because of their 20-year age difference. They split in 1997.

In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Mariah talked about her former marriages and even revealed the amount of men she’s had sex with.

“You might want to picture a child bride,” Mariah said about her marriage to Tommy. “There was a conscious effort to keep me as this all-American, whatever that means, girl. It was very controlled. There was no ­freedom for me as a human being. It was almost like being a prisoner.”

Tommy has since said that their relationship was “wrong and inappropriate.”
