Robert Pattinson Speaks About the Public's Reaction to His Casting as Batman
Robert Pattinson gets his close up on the cover of Variety‘s new issue.
Here’s what the 33-year-old The Batman star had to share with the mag…
On public reaction to news of his casting as Batman, which included a Change.org petition to have him recast: “To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting. It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you.”
On putting on the Batsuit for the first time in his final audition: “It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff. I put it on. I remember saying to Matt [Reeves, the screenwriter], ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’”
On his casting leaking to the public before it was official: “When that thing leaked, I was f*cking furious. Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”
On why he prefers to work constantly rather than just have fun: “I’m constantly living in terror. If you experience a loss of momentum, you don’t want that to happen again. And I really enjoy working. There’s no part of me that can go off and disappear.”
