Bianca Andreescu Defeats Serena Williams, Makes U.S. Open History!
Bianca Andreescu kisses the Winner’s Cup after winning the women’s singles finals at the 2019 U.S. Open on Saturday (September 7) in New York City.
The 19-year-old Canadian tennis player defeated the legendary player Serena Williams in two sets, 6-3 and 7-5.
Bianca is the first Canadian tennis player to win a Grand Slam championship and she’s also the first woman born in the 2000s to win a major tournament. Another record that she holds is the first female player to win the U.S. Open in her debut!
The match started off strong for Bianca, but then Serena started making a comeback. Ultimately, she wasn’t able to pull off a victory and the young player won.
