Zooey Deschanel performs the role of Belle while appearing in the two-night-only production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Live in Concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday (May 25) in Hollywood.
The actress was joined in the show by Taye Diggs as Gaston, Rebel Wilson as LeFou, Anthony Evans as The Beast, Kelsey Grammer as Lumiere, Jane Krakowski as Mrs. Potts, and Tony winner and Celebrity Big Brother winner Marissa Jaret Winokur as the Wardrobe.
The evening featured a live orchestra playing the animated film’s Oscar-winning score while the movie played on a giant screen over the stage. When the musical numbers were about to start, the actors came out on stage to perform the songs with the film playing in the background.
Since there are only six songs in the animated movie, not including reprises, some additional numbers were added for the production. “Human Again,” which was cut from the animated film and added to the Broadway musical, was sung by Marissa in the role of the Wardrobe.
Anthony had the show-stopping moment of the night when he performed the song “Evermore,” which was written for the 2017 live-action movie. He was discovered earlier this year after Hugh Jackman reposted a video of him singing the song “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman on Instagram. When Loren Allred fell ill on the night of a private party to celebrate the movie, the songwriters reached out to Anthony and asked him to step in at the last minute. The director of Beauty and the Beast Live in Concert was at the party and saw his performance and asked him to play The Beast!
