'Supergirl' Adds First Transgender Superhero on Television!

Supergirl is making history after casting TV’s very first transgender superhero!

Melissa Benoist and her co-stars made the announcement at the Supergirl Special Video Presentation and Q&A during 2018 Comic-Con at San Diego Convention Center on Saturday (July 21) in San Diego, Calif.

She was joined on stage by Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, and transgender activist and actress Nicole Maines, who made a surprise appearance during the panel!

Nicole will play Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, “the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team. A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl),” Deadline reports.

Supergirl will also add April Parker Jones as series regular Colonel Haley and David Ajala in the recurring role of Manchester Black.

Season four of Supergirl will premiere on October 14 on The CW!

'Supergirl' Adds Four New Characters to Season 3!

Melissa Benoist is joined by her Supergirl cast mates as they attend the 2017 Comic-Con on Saturday morning (July 22) in San Diego, Calif.

The 28-year-old actress and the cast – including Odette Annable, Mehcad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Chris Wood, and Katie McGrath – attended the event to share the latest scoop on the upcoming third season of their show.

It was announced that same day that four new characters will be joining the upcoming season of Supergirl.

Adrian Pasdar and Yael Grobglas have both been cast as villains while Carl Lumbly will be playing J’onn J’onnz’s father from Mars. Also joining the show is Emma Tremblay who will be playing a teen fascinated by Supergirl.

Supergirl returns for season 3 on Monday, October 9 on The CW.

CW's DC Stars Tease 'Surprise Cameo,' New 'Flash' Villain, Crossovers, & More!

The cast and crew of the CW’s DC Comics-based Arrowverse series dropped a ton of upcoming spoilers at PaleyFest!

Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, and Stephen Amell all took the stage at The Paley Center for Media’s 2017 PaleyFest presentation of The CW’s Heroes & Aliens held at Dolby Theatre on Saturday (March 18) in Hollywood.

They were joined by their Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow cast mates David Ramsey, Candice Patton, David Harewood, Brandon Routh, and Caity Lotz, as well as moderator Kevin Smith and the shows’ executive producers.

At the event, it was revealed that there will be a surprise crossover in the second-to-last episode of Legends‘ fifth season!

“I will call it a surprise crossover,” EP Marc Guggenheim told Deadline. “No one knows this because we’ve kept it under wraps, but there’s a surprise cameo, surprise crossover moment in the penultimate episode of Legends.”

“Very soon, the author of the greatest, I guess you could call it ‘fantasy novel series’ of all time will appear,” EP Phil Klemmer also hinted. “You can figure out who that is.”

Melissa Benoist & 'Supergirl' Cast Talk Moving Networks at Comic-Con

The cast of Supergirl gather up for a group photo at SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio Channel at Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday (July 23) in San Diego, Calif.

Melissa Beniost, David Harewood, Jeremy Jordan, Mehcad Brooks, and Chyler Leigh welcomed Tyler Hoechlin to the gang before heading to a signing event at 2016 San Diego Comic Con.

“We’re going to have a bit more runway,” Chyler shared with TVLine about switching from CBS to the CW in the fall.

She added, “Since were catering to that younger crowd, we have a bit more room to bring some crazy, crazy in.”

Melissa Benoist and her co-star Jeremy Jordan open up about their new show Supergirl during the 2015 Summer TCA Tour held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday (August 10) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The pair was joined by the rest of the cast – Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, and Chyler Leigh.

Also in attendance were executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sarah Schechter.
