Disneyland has been closed since March 14, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but now the park is becoming part of the solution in ending the pandemic.

The theme park is now the first super POD (Point-of-Dispensing) site to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to residents of Orange County, California. Super PODs will have the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents each day.

The super POD is located in the Toy Story parking lot at Disneyland and photos of the location show that the lines rivaled the lines that are usually inside the park.

The city of Anaheim tweeted on Thursday (January 14), “It’s warming up here at the @Disneyland vaccine Super POD site. When you arrive, stay cool in your car until 15 min before your apt. Line up 15 min before your apt. Bring water, compact chairs ok.”

Disneyland has announced that the park’s annual pass program is coming to an end.

The news comes after the park has been closed for nearly a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and there’s still no reopening date in sight, especially with the surge of cases in California.

“Due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and limitations around the reopening of our California theme parks, we will be issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current program,” Disneyland’s president Ken Potrock said in a statement posted to the Disney Parks News page.

He added, “We are currently developing new membership offerings that will utitlize customer insights to deliver choice, flexibility and value for our biggest fans.”

Walt Disney World in Florida reopened last summer and remains open.

A Space Mountain movie is in the works at Disney.

Revealed today via The Hollywood Reporter, the film is currently in development and the script will be written by Joby Harold, who is writing and producing the upcoming Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The news also reports that Joby and his wife Tory Tunnell will also produce the film, alongside Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who also produced the live action Aladdin.

If you don’t know, Space Mountain debuted at Walt Disney World in 1975 in Orlando, Fla., then at Anaheim’s Disneyland in 1977. Additional versions of the popular attraction are also seen around the world at the parks, except for in Shanghai.

Earlier this summer, Disneyland announced that their popular attraction, Splash Mountain, will be getting a brand new look based on this classic movie.

The company just announced that Disneyland and Disney World’s rides will be now be themed around The Princess and the Frog, the studio’s only movie with a Black princess.

The ride, which debuted in 1989 at Disneyland, and is also featured at Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland, currently pays homage to one of Disney’s racist movies, Song of the South. Disney has been distancing itself from Song of the South for quite some time and the movie is not available on Disney+ at all.

Now, the ride is going to be completed different!

“Today we are thrilled to share a first glimpse of a project Imagineers have been working on since last year. Splash Mountain – at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom park in Florida – will soon be completely reimagined,” Disney Parks said on their blog. “The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, “The Princess and the Frog.” We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”

“Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou. In 1966, Walt himself opened New Orleans Square when it became the first new ‘land’ added to Disneyland park, so it feels natural to link the story and the incredible music of The Princess and the Frog to our parks,” they added.

Voice of Tiana, Anika Noni Rose, shared her reaction to the exciting news.

“It is really exciting to know that Princess Tiana’s presence in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will finally be fully realized! As passionate as I am about what we created, I know the fans are going to be over the moon. The Imagineers are giving us The Princess and the Frog Mardi Gras celebration we’ve been waiting for, and I’m here for it!” she said.

Disney also just announced that Disneyland’s planned phased reopening may be pushed back from it’s original July 17th date.

Disneyland‘s gates might be closed a little bit longer, according to new reports.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the theme park was unable to get state clearance to re-open for the intended date of July 17.

The paper adds that it still remains unclear when the park will re-open, if at all this year.

“The State of California has now indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4,” the company shared. “Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials.”

“Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date.”

Earlier, Disney said that the park had planned “a phased reopening”.

While the gates to Disneyland are going to be closed, Downtown Disney still has plans to re-open on July 9.

Disneyland is preparing to reopen.

Walt Disney announced on Wednesday (June 10) that they are planning a proposed July 17 reopening of Disneyland, Variety reported.

“The company’s parks division has planned a phased reopening, beginning with Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Calif., on July 9, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on July 17 and and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel on July 23. In order to comply with governmental requirements and to promote social distancing, the company said that it will use a new theme park reservation system to manage attendance,” the outlet reported.

Disney World similarly set a partial opening in May.

If you were watching the Disney Family Singalong special, you probably noticed that John Stamos and his family filmed their segment in a giant Dumbo from the Disneyland ride!

The 56-year-old actor sang “It’s a Small World” while sitting in the giant Dumbo and lots of fans were amazed that he had something that special in his house.

Well, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen it. Just a few weeks ago, John read the book “A Kiss Goodnight,” by Disney legends Floyd Norman and Richard Sherman, from the Dumbo. You can watch below!

John has always been a big Disney fan and back in 2015 he told James Corden, “When I was a kid, my friend collected war relics, which was weird, and I said, I want to collect stuff. So I started collecting Disney memorabilia because I love Disneyland.”
