'Shameless' Officially Renewed for Season 8 After Emmy Rossum Works Out New Contract!

Shameless is officially coming back for an eighth season!

The hit Showtime series, which had its season seven finale last night, will get twelve episodes for the next season in 2017.

It was previously unclear if the show would continue after its star Emmy Rossum demanded to be paid equally to her male co-star William H. Macy. She reportedly wanted more money than him to make up for years of unequal pay, but confirmed last week that a deal was reached.

As season seven of Shameless came to an end, the Gallaghers dealt with the loss of one of their own, and grappled with mixed feelings about their grief. Fiona (Rossum) had to once again care for Frank (Macy) in his time of need, while Frank had a new scheme in mind.

The season seven finale ended almost like a series finale with a montage of where the characters have gone. But, we’re glad to get more episodes!

Emmy Rossum Will Return to 'Shameless,' Tweets Update After Equal Pay Negotiations

Emmy Rossum has seemingly been victorious in her quest for equal pay on Shameless in future seasons.

The 30-year-old actress tweeted moments age, “Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I’m so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family!Back to work in May!”

There were reports that if Emmy did not get what she deserved, she would hold a standout and the show could have potentially gone on without her. The tweet seemingly indicates that she was given equal pay to William H. Macy, her co-star who was recently given a pay raise.

The 66-year-old actor brought up the Equal Rights Amendment and how it hasn’t been approved by all of the states so it isn’t in the constitution. “About f–king time, don’t you think?” he asked.

The TMZ reporter who interviews William brought up how Emmy is a big part of the show, but decided to play devil’s advocate as well and brought up how he is an Oscar-nominated actor with a long career behind him.

“She works as hard as I do. She deserves everything. The only thing I got over Emmy Rossum is I’m better looking,” Bill joked.

VIDEO: Emmy Rossum Admits She is a Victim of Sexual Assault, Urges Post-Election Unity

Emmy Rossum is speaking out about some Twitter hate she received following the presidential election.

The 30-year-old Shameless actress tweeted her thoughts about the new President-elect the day after the results were announced.

“This morning still sad,” she wrote. “I was looking forward to the next 4 yrs. To having a child, maybe a daughter, under the first female president. So I’m sad. But I woke up this morning and the sun came up. And I made my breakfast and fed the dogs. And the world didn’t end.”

She later added, “I am a woman. I am Jewish. I am marrying an Arab American. My sister in law is handicapped. I’m a victim of sexual violence. It’s personal.”

After receiving a lot of angry responses to that particular tweet, Emmy addressed the negative feedback.

“I think it’s important, the whole idea, if you see something say something,” she said on Chelsea Handler‘s talk show. “Be safe, stick up for yourself, stick up for others. I don’t generally interact with people who are, say, trolls on Instagram, but if someone makes a specific threat me or against someone and I’m at replied on it, I think that standing idly by and being silent is in and of itself just as bad.”

“There is a need to come together,” Emmy added. “I think hate on either side of the aisle – it’s not about who you voted for or what you believe – it’s about common decency.”
