Evil Dead has topped this weekend’s box office with a gross of $26 million!
According to THR, the remake of Sam Raimi‘s 1981 cult horror story fared better than most scary flicks.
Coming in at number two for the second week in a row was the animated film The Croods, voiced by Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, earning $21.1 million and bringing its total to $125.8 million – becoming only the second title of 2013 to do so, after Oz the Great and Powerful.
The number three slot went to G.I. Joe: Retaliation, starring Dwayne Johnson, which also grossed $21.1 million after debuting in the No. 1 spot last week.
Rounding out the top five were the 3D re-release of Steven Spielberg‘s Jurassic Park and Gerard Butler‘s Olympus Has Fallen, which made $18.2 million and $10.4 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, The Host, which stars Diane Kruger, Jake Abel, Max Irons, and Saoirse Ronan, brought in $5.2 million in its second week.
At the specialty box office, The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, expanded to a total of 30 theaters in its second weekend, grossing $695,000.
