During this year’s Tony Awards, the writers of all the nominated plays have been given a chance to talk about their shows on stage.

Jez Butterworth, the playwright of The Ferryman, went off script during his moment on stage to instead thank his partner Laura Donnelly, the star of the play.

“I don’t care if you see my play or not, I’m just gonna talk,” Jez said while telling the audience to Google the play if they want to know more.

Jez applauded Laura for having two kids while performing in the show over the past couple years in both the West End and Broadway productions of the play.

Laura, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play, stunned on the carpet in a purple dress. Also in attendance was co-star Fionnula Flanagan, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play.

Adam Driver and Ruth Wilson walk the red carpet while attending the 2019 Tony Awards‘ Meet the Nominees Press Day on Wednesday (May 1) in New York City.

The two actors are among the 21 performers who received acting nominations for their work in plays on Broadway. Adam is nominated for his work in Burn This alongside co-star Brandon Uranowitz while Ruth received a nom for King Lear.

Among the other nominees who attended the event were: To Kill a Mockingbird‘s Jeff Daniels, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Gideon Glick, Choir Boy‘s Jeremy Pope, All My Sons‘ Annette Bening and Benjamin Walker, The Ferryman‘s Laura Donnelly and Fionnula Flanagan, Hillary and Clinton‘s Laurie Metcalf, What the Constitution Means to Me‘s Heidi Schreck, Ink‘s Bertie Carvel, and Gary‘s Kristine Nielsen and Julie White.

The Tony Awards will take place on June 9 at Radio City Music Hall.
