The two former ER stars reunited for A Second Chance of Love, airing tonight on Hallmark Channel.
“Working with Eriq was so great. There was definitely a shorthand,” Gloria shared with Parade about the reunion. “But at the same time the sexy, fun, romantic story in this script were not elements that we were given on ER, in the relationship between Jeanie Boulet and Dr. Benton.”
She went on, opening up about why they both signed on for the flick.
“There was something about this that really connected with us. We moved into it really deeply when we were discussing the script and filming,” Gloria shared. “It touched on fundamental human experiences.”
She added, “We can all relate to being willing to open up the heart again, and sometimes dysfunctional relationships or breakups in a marriage can have a generational effect after the fact. The story touches on the willingness for people to want to learn and grow.”
Gloria was also drawn to showing off her playful side: “I got to be fun, flirty, sexy, laugh and dance. I thought, yes, please.”
A Second Chance at Love centers on Alicia (Alvina August) and Arnold’s (Jarod Joseph) marriage, which looks picture perfect, however, there is something amiss. Arnold is ready to grow their family, but subconsciously Alicia is hesitant to the idea.
Rather than face the problem head on, Alicia, the self-proclaimed “love doctor,” immerses herself in her divorced parents Jack (La Salle) and Brenda’s (Reuben) dating affairs by setting them each up on a blind date dating app.
A Second Chance at Love premieres TONIGHT, Saturday, march 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel.
