Lee Pace has been cast in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit as Thranduil the Elven King, Deadline reports.
The 32-year-old actor will be joining the cast made up of Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, and more.
The Hobbit is set to be released in late 2012.
Congratulations are in order for Lee and the cast and crew members of his current hit Broadway show, The Normal Heart, which received five Tony nominations today, including best revival of a play! The Tonys will air on CBS June 12 at 8/7c.

The flick is about a young guy (Michael Angarano) who crashes the wedding of the thirty-something woman (Thurman) he wants back.

Lee Pace and The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons are set to star in an upcoming production of The Normal Heart on Broadway!
The play, written by Larry Kramer, will run for a 12-week engagement beginning next month.
Here’s a synopsis of the show from Broadway.com: “The Normal Heart unfolds like a real-life political thriller as a tight-knit group of friends refuses to let doctors, politicians and the press bury the truth of an unspoken epidemic behind a wall of silence.”

The 31-year-old former Pushing Daisies star plays Whit Coutell, a famous documentary filmmaker, alongside Uma Thurman and Michael Angarano.
Synopsis: Sam Davis (Angarano) convinces his former best friend to spend a weekend with him to rekindle their friendship at an elegant beachside estate owned by Whit. But it soon becomes clear that Sam is secretly infatuated with Whit’s fiancée, Zoe (Thurman), and that his true intention is to thwart their impending nuptials. As Sam’s plan begins to unravel, he is forced to realize how complicated love and friendship can be.
