Mel Gibson to Direct 'Lethal Weapon 5'

Mel Gibson is reportedly set to direct the fifth installment of Lethal Weapon, a new report says.

The fifth installment has been in development for years, with the latest draft being written by The Equalizer screenwriter Richard Wenk. Richard Donner, who directed every Lethal Weapon movie since the beginning in 1987, passed away at the age of 91 this past July. THR reports that his wife may have instigated the change to have Mel direct and keep the project alive.

If you don’t know, Mel has starred as Martin Riggs in every Lethal Weapon movie.

Stay tuned as we learn more about the fifth installment, including casting decisions and a release date.

There’s another Lethal Weapon in the works!

Producer Dan Lin confirmed that Lethal Weapon 5 is close to happening during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter – and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as well as director Richard Donner are coming back.

Damon Wayans Is Leaving Fox's 'Lethal Weapon'

Damon Wayans will be leaving Fox’s Lethal Weapon in December.

“I am going to be quitting the show in December, after we finish the initial 13. So, I really don’t know what they’re planning but that’s what I’m planning. I’m a 58-year-old diabetic and I’m working 16-hour days,” he told Electronic Urban Report in an interview.

He added that he is “done” working on the show. He has played the role of Roger Murtaugh on the show since it started in 2016.

The show was embroiled in controversy recently when original cast member Clayne Crawford was fired and replaced by Seann William Scott for season three.

Seann William Scott Promotes 'Lethal Weapon,' Damon Wayans Details Issues with Clayne Crawford

Seann William Scott walks the carpet at the Fox All-Star Party held during 2018 Upfronts Week on Monday (May 14) at Central Park’s Wollman Rink in New York City.

The 41-year-old actor promoted his new role on Lethal Weapon. He is replacing star Clayne Crawford for the upcoming season.

At the same time as the event, Seann‘s future co-star Damon Wayans took to Twitter to detail his issues with Crawford. Fans have been upset with the actor’s firing and Wayans wanted to address the outrage.

Wayans shared a video taken on set during an episode directed by Crawford. In the video, Wayans is seen getting struck in the back of his head by shrapnel. He also shared a photo of his bloody head. He wrote, “How does the shrapnel from this hit me on the opposite side of the head? #DirectedBy Clayne Crawford.”

He also tweeted, “Below is a rendering seeking to explain yesterday’s incident. It turns out there was a second shooter, to Damon‘s left, on the other side of the pillar behind which his character was crouched, which accounts for what he heard from his left side.” He also tagged Clayne‘s account and wrote #NoApology.

Read what Clayne said in his recent apology, in which he addressed the incident.

FYI: Seann is wearing a Strong Suit suit and Vince Camuto shoes.

Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said. “Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

Clayne has come under fire for his behavior, and recently apologized for two incidents.

“I absolutely love, respect and care for my crew and cast, and would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs. I am incredibly sorry if my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on our set, or feel less than celebrated for their efforts. Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because of these incidents,” he said in a statement after an actor felt unsafe on the set after being hit by a piece of shrapnel.

The network is reportedly deciding the fate of the series ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation later this month.
