Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have broken off their engagement after announcing their intention to marry just three weeks ago.

“It’s over,” Bristol, 19, told People. “I broke up with him.”

Bristol said that the relationship took a turn for the worse on July 14, the same day they announced their engagement to Us Weekly.

Levi reportedly told Bristol he may have fathered another baby with another teenager – the report has since been refuted.

“The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family,” Bristol said. “He’s just obsessed with the limelight and I got played.”

Levi Johnston has apologized for speaking out after he broke up with the mother of his child, Bristol Palin.

“Last year, after Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry,” Levi told People. “Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true. I have already privately apologized to Todd and Sarah. Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize.”

Levi, 20, had alleged that Sarah Palin had complained about her job as Governor of Alaska and that a split for Sarah and husband Todd was likely.

Bristol added, “”Part of co-parenting is creating healthy and honest relationships between the parents. Tripp one day needs to know the truth and needs to know that even if a mistake is made the honorable thing to do is to own up to it.”

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have reportedly set aside their differences and may be back together as a couple.

The 19-year-old daughter of former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin requested back child support from Levi earlier in the year, but a source tells Us Weekly that they two are “still very close”.

“Now that Mama Palin is out of the picture and Bristol is on her own in Anchorage, they spend more time together than most people think,” the source said, adding, “Levi even stays overnight.”

Maybe true love really does exist!

UPDATE: Bristol told Good Morning America, “Levi and I are turning a new page here as co-parents to this wonderful boy and putting aside the past because doing so is in Tripp‘s best interest.”

Levi Johnston rocks the red carpet in a lilac shirt and tie at Us Weekly’s Hot Hollywood Party held at West Hollywood’s Voyeur on Wednesday (November 18).

The 19-year-old father of Sarah Palin‘s grandchild also dropped by the GQ “Man of the Year” party and shared his Thanksgiving plans at the event… and they didn’t include turkey with the Palins!

“No! Definitely not,” Levi told JustJared.com when we asked if he’d be joining Bristol and company after Sarah‘s invitation on Oprah. “It wasn’t even a true genuine invite to me!”
