Natasha Richardson's Son Micheál Opens Up About Keeping His Late Mom's Memory Alive

Micheál Richardson is opening up about his late mom Natasha Richardson.

The 25-year-old actor, whose parents are the late actress and Liam Neeson, recalled losing his mom when he was only 13-years-old.

Natasha died in 2009 from blunt force trauma following a skiing accident. She was only 45-years-old.

It was so sudden,” Micheál shared with U.K’s The Times. “When it’s unexpected and it’s just a complete freak accident, it really sort of messes with your mind, whether you believe in fate or not. It can send you for a bit of a head spin, and so you just latch on to the tiny little memories, whether it’s her laugh or her energy in the room or her cooking.”

Micheál also said that he keeps his mom’s memory alive by watching some of her old movies.

“I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I’m incredibly grateful for,” Micheál said.

In a previous interview with People, Micheál said that his favorite movie of Natasha‘s is The Parent Trap “because I just see her so much as that person.”

“I’m so lucky too, because she’s passed away, I can still watch her and see how she worked and also it’s a great thing to have,” he continued. “And I do [watch her movies], but there’s still a lot there I need to watch.”

Micheál recently teamed up with Liam for the movie Made in Italy, which you can watch on Hulu now.

In a recent interview, Liam shared his thoughts on Micheál deciding to take Natasha‘s last name “Richardson” as his own.

Liam Neeson Reacts to Son Micheál Taking His Late Mom Natasha Richardson's Last Name

In 2018, Liam Neeson‘s son Micheál Richardson decided to change his last name to his late mom’s last name.

Micheál, now 25, was only 13 years old when Natasha Richardson tragically died after a ski accident at the age of 45.

“I think he did the right thing. I think it was a lovely homage, a nice gesture and he’s, you know, he’s not saddled with my last name which, I have a certain celebrity status I guess,” Liam explained on Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM show. “I’d hate for him to be constantly asked, ‘Oh are you Liam Neeson‘s son.’ So, it was a lovely gesture. Natasha’s family, mother and sisters were very touched by it, as indeed I was too.”

The pair star in the film Made in Italy together.
