A Busch Gardens Flamingo by the name of Pinky was euthanized on Tuesday (August 2) in Tampa Bay, Florida after being attacked by a male by the name of Joseph Anthony Corrao.
The patron went up to Pinky at around 6:45 pm and apparently picked her up and slammed her on the ground.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, and is currently being held on a $5,000 bond at the Orient Road Jail.
The AP reports that Pinky was known as a “diva extraordinaire,” and while they tried to save her, they decided she should be euthanized because the injuries she suffered were severe.
“Pinky was a beloved member of the Busch Gardens Tampa Bay family,” Busch Gardens said in a statement. “[She] made many appearances on behalf of the park’s conservation and education efforts. She will be sorely missed.”
Earlier in the summer, a gorilla by the name of Harambe was killed after a child crawled into his enclosure.
