'Jane the Virgin' Shockingly Killed off a Major Character -- Spoiler!

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

We are still in shock over the death tonight on The CW’s Jane the Virgin!

In a move that immediately sent shockwaves through the fandom, the show killed off a major character in season 3.

Not that it was entirely unexpected — because he’s had some serious brushes with death before, but just when fans least expected it — BAM — he literally drops dead right in front of our eyes.

Click inside to find out who died on tonight’s episode of Jane the Virgin…

It was Michael (Brett Dier), and we serious need three boxes of tissues while we bawl our eyes out.

Michael died moments after taking the LSAT, caused by an aortic dissection by his gunshot wound.

We’re not the only ones completely heartbroken over his death.

The show’s creator, Jennie Snyder Urman, penned a heartfelt letter to to fans about Brett, which she posted immediately after the episode aired.

“I honestly don’t think I’ll ever love a moment on our show as much as I loved Michael’s vows to Jane,” she stated.

Jennie admitted, though, that Michael’s death was always part of the storyline.

“It was a decision made very early on, when I thought about our story as a whole.  And even in season one, I knew it would be a hard thing to actually do, which is why there was a line (which many of you noticed) about how Michael would never stop loving Jane,” she continued.

Knowing she would get as attached to the character as fans did, Jennie admitted, she dropped a hint from the very beginning, partially to make sure she followed through with her vision.

“The Narrator confirmed, ‘For as long as Michael lived, until he drew his very last breath, he never did.’  Honestly, I put that line into the script at the last minute to hold our feet to the fire, to make sure we went through with it,” she confessed.

But what is Jane (Gina Rodriguez) going to do now? Is it possible to see the fact this could lead to a possible rekindling with Rafael as an upside?

Sob.
