Fyre Festival's Billy McFarland Is Using a Public Defender for Fraud Case

Billy McFarland, the organizer of the failed Fyre Festival, was released from jail on $300,000 bail and is using a public defender for his wire fraud case.

The 25-year-old businessman arrived at court on Saturday (July 1) in New York City with public defender Sabrina P. Shroff.

McFarland was arrested on Friday amid allegations that he defrauded Fyre Media investors by misrepresenting information about the company.

Despite living in an apartment that reportedly costs $21,000 a month and driving a Maserati car worth $110,000, McFarland has not been able to pay the lawyers he hired after his Fyre Festival fiasco, so he is currently using a public defender, according to the New York Times.
