'The Lovebirds' Will Go to Netflix Instead of Hitting Theaters

Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani‘s upcoming movie The Lovebirds will be premiering on Netflix after being pulled from the theatrical release calendar due to theater closures around the country.

Movie theaters are shut down indefinitely due to the global health crisis right now and it’s unclear when they will be able to reopen.

Paramount Pictures has sold the movie to Netflix and the deal has been “in the works for a while,” according to Deadline.

The Lovebirds was supposed to hit theaters on April 3, but it’s unclear when Netflix will decide to release the film.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis: A couple (Rae and Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
