Lin-Manuel Miranda Reveals How Disney+ Version of 'Hamilton' Has Affected Broadway Ticket Sales
Lin-Manuel Miranda is opening up about the effect that the pro-shot version of Hamilton, which is streaming now on Disney+, is having on Broadway ticket sales.
The 41-year-old Tony-winning actor originally made the filmed version of Hamilton with the intentions of releasing it in movie theaters, but plans changed amid the pandemic and the film debuted on the streaming service instead.
There has been an argument for quite some time that pro-shot versions of Broadway musicals would take away demand for seeing the shows live on stage.

Lin says that the filmed version of Hamilton has actually HELPED ticket sales!
“It forever demolishes the idea that a beautifully shot version of your show diminishes the demand to see it live,” he told CNBC. “In all of our estimations, it’s only amplified the demand to see Hamilton live.”
Lin hopes to see more Broadway shows do the same thing in the future.
“That’s a win for theater,” he said. “To have more pro shots, to have those out in the world, I think is a win. I would love to see more of that going forward.”
