Joan Copeland Dead - Broadway Star & Sister of Arthur Miller Dies at 99

Joan Copeland has sadly died.

The acclaimed actress and sister of the playwright Arthur Miller, died Tuesday (January 4) at her home in New York City at the age of 99, Deadline confirmed.

Joan made her Broadway debut in 1948 in Sundown Beach, followed by Detective Story. She would later appear in more over the decades, including Not For Children, Two By Two and 45 Seconds From Broadway.

She also won an Obie Award in 1991 for her performance in Richard Greenburg’s The American Plan.

Joan Copeland also took on many TV and film roles, including The Patty Duke Show, All in The Family, NYPD Blue and ER, and she recurred as Judge Rebecca Stein from 1991 to 2001 on Law & Order.

Her many film credits included The Goddess The Peacemaker, The Object of My Affection, The Last Request and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.
