James Gunn & Peter Safran Will Take Over & Lead DC Universe Film, TV and Animation

James Gunn is heading to the DC Universe and isn’t looking back.

Along with Peter Safran, the two will be leading the franchise’s film, TV and animation divisions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report says that James and Peter will act as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, which is the newly formed division at Warner Bros. that will replace DC Films.

They will report to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and work closely with Warner film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

James is set to focus on the creative side of things, while Peter will focus on the business and production side. Both are expected to continue to direct and produce projects, respectively.

Additional sources say the deal runs four years and James will be exclusive to DC. The goal is for them not just to be producers, but to truly function as executives even as James will occasionally hone a movie.

The move marks a major one for James, who most recently directed the final Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and its holiday special, for Marvel.
