Patrick Dempsey is addressing Ellen Pompeo‘s exit from Grey’s Anatomy with a little humor.

On Thursday (November 18), the 53-year-old actress shared a heartfelt message ahead of her departure from the long-running ABC medical drama as a series regular after 19 seasons.

Later that night, Patrick, 56, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he and Jimmy poked some fun at Ellen‘s exit.

“She’s leaving the show. I don’t know if you heard, she got caught stealing Band-Aids from the set,” Jimmy joked.

“Did she really? Finally, they caught her,” Patrick responded. “Can you imagine what she’d have in her house now from 19 seasons? A full hospital.”

Patrick – who left Grey’s in 2015 after 12 seasons – went on to discuss the impact of the show.

“It’s amazing, the power of that show and how long it’s lasted and the impact it’s had around the world,” Patrick said. “It’s changed my life profoundly and my family’s.”

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes also addressed Ellen‘s upcoming exit.
