BTS Member RM Drops Debut Solo Album 'Indigo' & Opens Up About Its Sound & Collaborative Nature

BTS star RM is the latest member of the group to drop a solo album.

If you weren’t aware, RM is the leader of the K-Pop group behind chart-topping smashes including “Dynamite,” “Butter” and “Permission to Dance.” Like other members of the septet, he is exploring solo music while BTS is in the midst of a hiatus.

RM is the latest to drop a full-length solo project, and he did so with debut album Indigo, which arrived on Friday (November 2).

The 10-song album is heavily collaborative and features the likes of Erykah Badu and Anderson .Paak.

Lead single “Wild Flower” features a collaboration with youjeen and offers a taste of the album’s diverse sonics.

RM opened up about the album’s collaborations and its sound in an interview with Variety.

“I think the first interesting point is that I actually had a lot of collaborations and cooperations with a lot of artists,” he told the outlet. “It’s 10 tracks, and basically I had a collaboration with them on eight tracks. And then the second would be that, actually, the 10 tracks have their own 10 different genres, sound-wise. Before this album, I think I would get stuck on a specific concept or genre or texture. This time, I just tried to write like a diary.”

“I think before this album, I was always concentrating on wanting to prove something to people,” RM added. “This time I was focusing on expanding my personal thoughts to something universal, so people can approach it and think it could be their own stories, too. When I made this, it was all mine. But once I made this whole album, it feels like it’s not mine anymore, and I just give it to people, and people would maybe digest it and, through their own colors, reflect on their own lives.”

While Indigo marks RM‘s debut solo album, he’s previously released projects such as mono. in 2018 and has collaborated with the likes of Lil Nas X on a remix of “Old Town Road.”
