Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison After Being Convicted of Rape and Sexual Assault in Los Angeles

Harvey Weinstein has just been sentenced to 16 more years of prison time.

The 70-year-old disgraced film producer was convicted on three counts of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles last December.

His sentencing took place on Thursday (February 23) after the court dismissed Harvey‘s request for a retrial, according to Variety.

Harvey was already sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York, stemming from a separate legal battle where he was also found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

He continued to maintain his innocence in a statement before his latest sentencing was announced.

“This is about money and coming after me,” he claimed. “Please don’t sentence me to life in prison. I don’t deserve it… There are so many things wrong with this case. There is no evidence… This is a setup… I beg your mercy.”

His legal team, who depicted him as “a caricature because of the #MeToo movement,” implied that the victim’s testimony and treatment in court made the trial unfair to Harvey.

They plan to appeal the case although their first attempt for a retrial was denied. They have also appealed the New York case.

If both convictions and sentences hold, he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

He was granted an appeal in New York back in August.
