Kristin Chenoweth Addresses Major 'Wicked' Rumor Involving Ariana Grande

Kristin Chenoweth is clearing the air about Ariana Grande, who is stepping up to fill her shoes in the new Wicked movies.

If you forgot, Kristin originated the role of Glinda alongside Idina Menzel in the initial run of the Broadway musical. The 29-year-old “Thank U, Next” pop star is now taking over the part alongside Cynthia Erivo.

In fact, we’ve already gotten quite a few behind the scenes glimpses at Ariana filming the new movies, the first of which is set to premiere in late 2024.

A video from set one day led to a major rumor, which Kristin addressed while attending the 2023 Vanderpump Dog Foundation Gala earlier this week.

Last month, a clip of Ariana on set appeared online. In it, she was singing “No One Mourns the Wicked.” However, at first some people thought that she was lip syncing to Kristin‘s version of the song!

Is that true? According to Kristin, absolutely not.

“I cracked up because I have heard it and I knew it was her, and I was like, ‘Why did they think that’s me,’” she asked ET.

She continued, noting that there were similarities between her and Ariana.

“We are very similar and we have been her whole life, and then when we talk on the phone we sound like dolphins,” she said about the pop star. “I know that she has been diligently working on that vocal and she can sing anything, and I’m so proud of her.”

Kristin has previously revealed the advice she had for Ariana after she landed the part. On that note, did you know that four other stars were in the running to play Glinda?
