Dwayne Johnson Returns to 'Fast & Furious' With New Standalone Movie - Here's How It Will Fit Into Franchise

Dwayne Johnson is gearing up for a Fast & Furious comeback!

After making a cameo in the newly released Fast X, the 51-year-old actor announced that he had signed on to star in a spinoff featuring his character Luke Hobbs.

In the process of announcing the “long-awaited” project, he referenced his former feud with co-star Vin Diesel and revealed how his movie was going to fit within the franchise.

Dwayne took to Instagram on Thursday (June 1) to confirm the comeback.

“Hope you’ve got your funderwear on… HOBBS IS BACK,” he teased in the caption. “Luke Hobbs will be returning to the Fast & Furious franchise. Your reactions around the world to Hobbs’ return in Fast X have blown us away 🤯🙏🏾🌍”

He continued, explaining where the movie would fall and hinting at what fans should expect: “The next Fast & Furious film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the HOBBS movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FASTX: Part II.”

In regards to Vin, he noted that “Last summer @vindiesel and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”

“I’ve built my career on an ‘Audience First’ mentality and that will always serve as my
North Star,” Dwayne added.

In a video that accompanied the caption, Dwayne thanked his fans for their support of his Fast X cameo. He also hinted at what they can expect from the movie.

“It’s not even unfinished business between Jason Momoa‘s character, who did a great job by the way with his character of Dante. It’s not even unfinished business between Dante and Hobbs. It’s business is about to pick up. Oh s-it. Business is about to pick up. So if you thought that The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin headlining three Wrestlemanias – if you thought that was Earth-shattering – well, wait ’til you see what happens when Dante and Hobbs collide.”
