Here's Why Lea Michele Is Not Nominated at Tony Awards 2023, Despite 'Funny Girl' Performance

Lea Michele is one of the performers hitting the stage tonight at the 2023 Tony Awards, but she’s not nominated for an award.

The 36-year-old actress will be performing alongside the cast of the musical Funny Girl and it’s widely believed that they will perform “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

If this is true, it won’t be the first time Lea sings the song at the Tony Awards. She actually performed the song at the 2010 Tony Awards right after Glee became a massive hit!

Funny Girl is a musical that opened on Broadway during the 2021-2022 season, so it was eligible for awards at the 2022 Tony Awards. It only received one nomination, for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Jared Grimes.

Beanie Feldstein originated the role of Fanny Brice in the revival production, so she was eligible for the Best Leading Actress in a Musical award. Since Lea was the replacement, she is not eligible for awards.

Lea has said she doesn’t care about winning an award for Fanny. She told the New York Times, “You might think that’s the biggest piece of bullsh*t that I’m going to say to you all day, but I really don’t care about that at this point. It’s just about being able to play this part.”

Lea has already teased her next Broadway show and we picked five possible roles she might play.
