Meryl Streep Speaks Out After Harvey Weinstein Uses Her Name in Lawsuit

Meryl Streep is not happy that Harvey Weinstein‘s attorneys used her name in a lawsuit.

The Florence Foster Jenkins actress is speaking out after Harvey‘s team used one of her past statements in order to suggest that he was not abusive.

Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys use of my (true) statement — that he was not sexually transgressive or physically abusive in our business relationship — as evidence that he was not abusive with many OTHER women is pathetic and exploitive,” she said in a statement to Deadline on Wednesday (February 21).

“The criminal actions he is accused of conducting on the bodies of these women are his responsibility, and if there is any justice left in the system he will pay for them — regardless of how many good movies, made by many good people, Harvey was lucky enough to have acquired or financed.”

In his motion filed on Tuesday (February 20) to dismiss the RICO Act-citing federal suit from 2017 made by Louisette Geiss, Katherine Kendall, Zoe Brock, Sarah Ann Masse, Melissa Sagemiller and Nannette Klatt, Harvey‘s lawyers referenced Meryl because she “stated publicly that Weinstein had always been respectful to her in their working relationship.”
