Future strikes a pose in his black-and-white blazer while arriving at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards held at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (August 28) in New York City.

The 32-year-old musician took the stage later that night for the first time in the show’s history!

Future – who has been on tour with Drake on the Summer Sixteen Tour this past month – performed his song “F–k Up Some Commas” after an introduction by Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.

“There’s no rapper today more inspiring than Future,” Michael said. “His optimism is right there in his name.”

Alicia Keys stands behind the mic during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards held at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (August 28) in New York City.

The 35-year-old songstress was there to present Best Male Video.

Before that, she shared a touching poem in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s “I Have a Dream” speech, which was given 53 years ago to the day.

Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj crush it with their performance at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards held at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (August 28) in New York City.

The two stars performed their song “Side to Side” during the show and it started with Ari doing a spin bike routine with all of her dancers. Watch the full video below!
