Jim Parsons has been cast as BuzzFeed writer Matt Stopera in the upcoming movie Brother Orange, based on the crazy and true story that become an online sensation.
In 2014, Stopera‘s iPhone was stolen and a year later, random photos started to pop up on his iCloud photo stream, including pictures of a man in front of an orange tree.
When the story went viral in China, the man, Li Hongjun, was dubbed “Brother Orange” and the online community on Weibo helped Stopera track him down.
The movie is going to follow the guys’ unlikely friendship.
Matt and his roommate Ilana Glazer are executive producing the film with Ellen DeGeneres while the lead producers are Jim, his partner Todd Spiewak, Michael Shamberg, and Matthew Henick, according to THR.
