'SpongeBob SquarePants' Episodes Pulled for Being Inappropriate

Two episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants are gone from streaming.

The episodes, “Kwarantined Crab,” and “Mid-Life Crustacean,” were pulled from Paramount+ and Amazon due to inappropriate content, according to CNN on Tuesday (March 30).

Season 12′s “Kwarantined Crab” follows the story of a virus, and a health inspector finding a case of “Clam Flu” at the Krusty Krab. The patrons are quarantined, and those who are assumed to have the virus are tossed into the freezer.

The removal comes amid a rise in anti-Asian violence in the United States which has prompted many celebrities to speak out. The episode mirrors similar tensions and suspicions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization is urging people to avoid terms like “Chinese virus,” which was repeatedly used by former President Donald Trump.

“We have decided to not air it due to sensitivities surrounding the global, real-world pandemic,” a spokesperson for Nickelodeon told CNN Business.

Another episode, called “Mid-Life Crustacean” was pulled since 2018. In the episode, SpongeBob, Patrick and Mr. Krabs break into a woman’s house and steal her underwear.

“We determined some story elements were not kid-appropriate,” Nickelodeon said.

Fans might find it a little weird that this superstar is a part of the new SpongeBob movie.
